Alwan wa Awtar

Alwan wa Awtar was created to respond to the lack of opportunities for personal development and growth which characterises most marginalised communities in Egypt. Today, we are active in three communities (Mokattam, Ezbet El Nasr and Kafr Hamza)

So What do we do?

We provide access to learning spaces that are welcoming, respectful and inclusive for children, youth and women from marginalised communities. In these spaces, our participants find the opportunity to: 

  • Engage with a variety of arts and learning programs
  • Explore and develop their personal passions and abilities
  • Connect and develop support networks within the community at large.

Why?

Our aim is for children and youth to awaken to their full potential, and to be able to make life choices that respond to their inner drives as well as their outer realities.

How?

We work through two essential means: Arts and Education, which both provide individuals with effective and creative tools to understand their reality and engage with it. Through arts & culture as well as education, we focus on the development of 4 sets of skills, commonly referred to as 21st century skills: self awareness & identity development, social skills, cognitive skills and self-learning skills.
